30 Day Drawing Challenge - Day 11

Today's Prompt - Turning Point in Your Life

A big turning point in my life was when I realized that, even if I make a mistake or screw something up, the world is not going to end. It was a big lesson for me to learn, and it's something that I'm definitely still in the process of figuring out.

My niece, Gabby, is almost 3, and she makes mistakes sometimes. She'll spill something, or drop something, and she'll apologize and have a bit of a cry, but will quickly move on and forget about what happened. She is such a source of joy and is a little bundle of energy. She is fast to forgive, even when she has to forgive herself. She's awesome.

Total Drawing Time: 46 minutes

30 Day Drawing Challenge - Day 9

Today's Prompt - Favourite TV Show

I love Bones. I've been watching it since it started, and know everything there is to know about the show. It helps me get through long nights, and has turned into a bit of an escape for me. Booth and Bones forever! :]
I almost didn't post this video because I was not pleased with the final product... That's the perfectionist in me coming out. I'm hoping that, through this challenge, my perfectionist tendencies will have less of a hold on me, and I won't feel so anxious with making drawing something that is less than perfect.
Total drawing time: 1hr50m

30 Day Drawing Challenge - Day 6

Today's Prompt - Favourite Character from a Book, Not in a Movie

I chose to draw Screwtape, from CS Lewis' The Screwtape Letters. He's a senior devil in Hell who is mentoring a younger tempter. Screwtape is a highly experienced tempter who has a very strong understanding of human weakness.

This drawing was the first real challenge for me, for a number of reasons. 1. I had a think of a book character that I like. 2. I didn't have much reference for the character, because they couldn't be in a movie. The other thing that contributed to this being a really challenging drawing for me was that I was trying to study for an exam and had a limited amount of time.

30 Day Drawing Challenge - Day 5

see note after video

Today's Prompt - Best Friend

This is Katie, my best friend. She is... I can't even think of a word to describe her. She's the greatest. It was actually tough for me to do this drawing, as I had a hard time accepting that nothing I draw is going to fully convey how awesome she is. I didn't want to give her any less than she deserves. But, when it comes down to it, nothing is going to measure up. Plus I know that she'd just encourage me and tell me to do my best, and then probably give me angry eyes when I say that my best isn't good enough, and then blush and/or tear up as she reads about how incredible I think she is. Thank you Little Red, for always being there for me. Things really are better when we're together.

30 Day Drawing Challenge - Day 1

I've decided to take part in a 30 day drawing challenge. Each day, for 30 days, I will do a drawing of whatever the prompt is. Some days (like today!), I will also post a video of me doing the drawing!

I think this challenge will be good for me for many reasons. I'm a total perfectionist, and the idea of sharing work that isn't PERFECT literally makes me sick to my stomach. With a daily drawing, though, I don't have time to perfect it, and that's the beauty of it. It will also help me broaden my skills, as there are a lot of things on the list I would never have drawn before...

This drawing is actually yesterdays drawing. Official start date of my 30 day challenge was April 13th. Let's go!

Randy

A couple of months ago the head pastor at my church stepped down and I was asked to do a portrait for his Goodbye Party. This is what I came up with, with reference photos from Rob Campbell Photography.

A Man...

Well the last few days I've been having to work on paintings with my left hand, since my right hand has been completely out of commission. That said, I must admit, I'm not pleased with this painting. At all. But, I am sharing all art I do I this site, so here is goes.

This coming Tuesday there is a fundraiser at my church for the Street Cafe. This is a piece I have painted for it.This man is an actual patron of the Cafe. Photograph provided by Rob Campbell

June 16th - I'm in pain

Tonight I have so far completed 1 painting and started another 2 pieces... Which I am pretty proud of, considering I have very little use of my right (aka drawing) hand.

These pieces may be used in a fundraiser coming up, called Just Desserts. This is a night to raise funds for The Street Cafe, run out of the Mustard Seed.

The titles are just working titles, and are not the final decision, but, the first one is the finished painting, and the second pic is a preview of whats to come...

As a side comment, I'd just like to say that
working with crayon on canvas is HARD.

These pictures are of Ryan, the second of which is a picture of him a few months older. The second picture is not finished yet, although is nearing completion. I will make sure to post a picture when I am done.

Simple Beauty and Why

These are two of my first drawing which I drew from scratch, without looking at a subject and the only inspiration being my emotions in the moment. Unfortunately, "Why" has been crumpled a bit during transportation.

The Original

This is the drawing that started it. Grade 8 art class, our project was to draw someone important to us. I chose to draw my little sister, TPro. The picture is from SeaWorld, in 2000. After this drawing, I decided that maybe I should try drawing things more often.
